Setting Up Your NFC Keychain

Welcome to your Scattered Words® NFC Keychain!

Your keychain is more than an accessory — it's a living link to your story. Follow the simple steps below to program and personalize your NFC tag.

What You'll Need

Your NFC keychain
A smartphone with NFC capability (most modern iPhones and Android phones)
An NFC writing app (we recommend NFC Tools, available free on iOS and Android)

Step 1 — Enable NFC on Your Phone

iPhone (XS or later): NFC is always on. No action needed.
Android: Go to Settings → Connected Devices → NFC and toggle it on.

Step 2 — Download an NFC Writing App

Download an NFC writing app on your phone. We recommend NFC Tools (free on iOS and Android) — it's simple, reliable, and works great with your Scattered Words® keychain tag.

Step 3 — Choose What You Want Your Tag to Do

Now for the hard part: deciding where you'd send someone in a single tap. Your Instagram? Your website? A preorder for your next book? Your Venmo, because you're a vendor and cash flow waits for no one? Only you know the answer, and I don't envy the decision fatigue. The good news: you can always come back for a second, or third tag later.

In NFC Tools, tap Write → Add a Record, select your action, fill in the details, and tap the checkmark in the top right corner.

Step 4 — Write the Tag

Once your record is set up, tap Write in the app. Hold the back of your phone near your keychain and keep it steady. You'll feel a vibration or see a confirmation message when the write is successful.

Step 5 — Test Your Tag

Now for the fun part! Lock your phone screen, then tap your keychain to it. Your programmed action should trigger automatically. If it doesn't respond, try repositioning your phone slightly — the sweet spot is usually the center of the keychain.
